Ship of Life

Ship of Life - wall mural in ceramic media

Ship Of Life

Ceramics

52" X 22"

In this relief mural, I have compared the life of human beings with a ship ............ strange!! Absolutely strange at an instance , but when you read further you'll believe how similar we are ..................... strange again .......... who we? Humans and Ship ? !!! Well read this and find out what's common.
In the centre of the relief ,we see a ship with an extension of human body at its far tip, thus introducing my theme ' similarity between human beings and ship'. Just as a ship is directed by its sails and goes wherever its sails forward , in the same way human beings are guided and directed by the mind , we go wherever our mind instructs us . Thus on the left side the sails of the ship are made hybrid with human head (spiritual one). One can see those spiritual circles behind the head , so as to highlight the point that it is not just a head but a non stop thinking organ. People boarded in the ship - its passengers are equivalent to people who are part of our life. The person trying to get on board symbolizes those people who join us in our life at some stage , who are not with us from birth. Just as for smooth moving of ship , the driver needs to have a good and firm hold on its wheel - the controlling device , in the same way , for a smooth and successful life we must have a firm hold of our life's controlling device - our mind. The figure at the tip of the ship points towards the sky and birds. An ultimate dream of every man is to touch the sky, to attain heights and to fly freely in the open sky ,like birds. But at the same time , whatever height we attain , how much success we achieve, every human being remains attached to some basic values and ethics of his life, in the same way whatever may be the depth of water a ship always remains attached to the base , by its anchor ; the right arm of the human being is thus developed into an anchor. Just as a ship covers its journey cutting through rising and falling waves , in same way a man's life is also a journey through many ups and downs. A mermaid on the right - a symbol of sea fantasy , symbolizes the dreams and fantasies in our lives.
