Ceramics : Baked at 900 degrees and then
glazed with attractive glossy colours to suit the form. Medium Closest
to mother earth , as the final medium is clay itself which is fired
hard to make it permanent and is then glazed to make it all the more
rich and attractive . Due to softness of the raw medium , freedom of
form is possible in ceramic sculptures and murals .For those who who
love colours in 3D medium , ceramic is the best choice.
Metal : It can be bronze , gun metal ,
copper sheet , brass sheet , aluminium or steel , metal works range
From 3- dimensional sculptures to repousse and metal sheet murals
.Metal sculptures are made Either from lost wax process or sand
casting process . Lost wax process is used for casting 3-D Metal
sculptures (either solid or hollow) and sand casting is basically done
for forms which are Simple and bold and without much undercuts.
Repousse is a technique of beating metal sheet with the help of
special tools (Gudiala tools) to Give the desired shape and form. This
technique is basically used in making reliefs and murals.
Cement : By cement we mean both white as
well as grey cement . Works in cement are either created directly in
Cement , that is cement is applied layer by layer on the armature as
per the maquet , or by casting Process. Cement works are suitable for
indoors as well as outdoors .To protect the surface of cement
From weathering ,earth colors are mixed along with the cement mixture
and to further protect ,wax polish is applied at the surface after
finishing.
Fibre Glass : Light weight, easy to
handle, fastest and comparatively low cost medium. For fibre glass,
there is no limitation of type or size of work. Anything and
everything can be casted in fibre. Also another quality of this medium
is ,it can be given any colour as per requirement. Although This
medium is suitable for both outdoors and indoors , it needs proper
care ( specially when Outdoors ) due to its light weight.
Mixed Media : It can be a combination of
two or three or more mediums in a single work which is carefully done
so that each medium supports the other medium and all these medium in
all help in enhancing the very concept and aesthetic beauty of the
form. It can be ceramic along with metal Or fibre along with metal
sheet or metal wire or wood with metal rods … to name a few.
Other Media : This includes media like
terracotta and plaster of paris. By terracotta we mean fired earth
clay on firing, the earth clay becomes brownish to reddish giving a
very beautiful look to the work. There are two ways of working in
plaster direct application or casting. By direct application we mean,
making the sculpture directly in plaster And by plaster casting we
mean ,first making the sculpture in clay and then casting it in
plaster (using mould). Works in plaster of paris can be
given any color on the surface.
